Ponderosa
Agriculture Department
The Ponderosa Agriculture Department
is a unique program designed to
help students develop an educational
and practical hands-on experience
in the field of agriculture. The
education and practical experience
will enable students to either
advance into secondary education,
enter the industry in an entry
level position, or go on to a
trade or vocational schools.
All
students enrolled in an Agriculture
Class at Ponderosa automatically
become members of Future Farmers
America (FFA). The FFA is a national
organization which promotes leadership
skills, personal growth and career
success through Agriculture education.
Students are encouraged to become
active in the FFA at the Chapter,
State and National levels.
Every
student is required to have a
Supervised Agricultural Project
(SAE). Some examples would be
growing crops, ornamental horticulture,
floriculture, livestock, mechanics,
or work experience. Students also
maintain a record book documenting
inventory, purchases, costs, labor,
etc., for any activity or cost
associated with their project.
Ponderosa
High School is also fortunate
to have a 3-acre farm located
in the southwest corner of the
campus. The facilities include
Beef , Swine, Sheep and Goat barns
as well as a green house, aquaculture
area and storage barn.
